Transitioning to Child Care
At Scallywags Child Care Centre, we recognise that starting at a new centre can be a challenging experience for both Children and their families. That’s why we encourage all new families to “Stay and Play” prior to enrolling their child. During these visits, families are able to speak in depth to the educators who will be primary carers for their child. They will also be able to see what a typical day at Scallywags looks and feels like before committing to an enrolment booking.
When children are ready to move into the next room, they are given the opportunity to have transitioning visits. The transitioning experience is tailored to the needs of each child. Some children see this as a great adventure while others need extra support during this time and their primary educator will spend time with them in their new environment.
The Kindergarten children prepare for their transition into Prep. Teachers from various schools arrange visits both at the school and at the centre to build relationships with children prior to their first day. Our teacher will prepare a “Transition Statement” for each child which contains information about their development, interests and strengths. This information is shared with your child’s Prep teacher.
